Laura & Brett’s Big Adventure

mystery-signBrett and I are planning something BIG for 2018, but that’s really all the detail I can give right now. We are currently in the research and saving stage, and have set some goals to achieve by the end of the year:

  • Save at least $7000 this year for our adventure next year. If it were just the two of us, this would be easy; in fact, we could probably save a whole lot more. But, we still have three children we’re responsible for, two of whom need plane tickets to and from the mainland a couple of times each year ($$$$), and one still at home that has numerous expenses related to high school and college admission and who still needs to be fed and clothed ($$$$). This is going to be a difficult goal for us to reach, but we’re going to give it our best shot. I will try to update our saving goal each quarter.
  • Research, research, research. You know this is fun for me, and I’m going to get to do a whole year and more of it! The first thing will be to find and reserve lodging, but there are other smaller tasks that I’ll be doing as well along the way.

I’m sorry this is all I can reveal at this time, but I just wanted to let you know that something is on the horizon. Something BIG!

Maybe I should call it Laura & Brett’s Big Mystery Adventure™?

  1. That sounds so exciting and fun. Look forward to reading your updates. Coincidentally, I’m thinking about 2018 and 2019 as well, just random thoughts that I eventually will write down and make them more concrete for me to work on.

    1. The first step along the way will be nailing down our lodging. But, the saving is super important if we’re going to pull it off. We’re very motivated!

I’ll have to come up with some good clues.

  2. There is a reason I don’t read mysteries. Looking forward to the big reveal.

    1. Well, it probably won’t happen until next year, but I will try to come up with some good clues and maybe you can figure it out! Actually, there’s still a lot for us to figure out at this point, but saving is always something to get started on sooner rather than later.

  3. Its always easier to save money when there is an end goal, even if it is a ways off. I am already researching our trip to Italy in 2018 with my stepson and haven’t even gone on our June Greece trip yet lol (all researched out)

    1. Having a goal is key for keeping motivated. I’m a very goal-oriented person as it is, and knowing what I’m working for keeps me going.

Great minds think alike -we still haven’t made it to Japan yet this year (all paid for), and I’m already thinking and planning 2018!

    1. We’re going to really have to work and be creative to make our savings goal, but we both think we can do it in spite of the heavy expenses for the girls. We actually started saving in January, and I think we’re even more motivated now. Fingers crossed!

  4. I enjoyed trying to figure out your last Mystery Trip (I never did figure it out!), so I will be sure to tune in for the 2018 version! Based on your travel savvy when it comes to saving money and a $7,000 budget for two people, I’m guessing it’s going to either be a long trip or a trip to someplace very far away?
